The next iteration of the MiSolFA grids are now available for testing. In the next TOMCAT shift at PSI, they will be characterized using synchrotron X-rays.

MiSolFA poster presented at TESS/SPD 2018
The MiSolFA team was proud to present our work to the community at the Triennial Earth-Sun Summit and Solar Physics Division meeting of the AAS. A copy is available here for download: click to view
Synchrotron measurements of EM grids completed
The EM grids were measured at the TOMCAT beamline of PSI in two shifts in April and May. These measurements will be used to characterize the transmission of the gratings. We also observed moiré patterns at 40 keV!
Thermal cycling successfully performed
Thermal test was successful! The read EM grid was tested with 8 cycles in the range -30°C to 70°C with 1.7°C/min and survived without problems. This was confirmed by the X-ray test performed on Feb 2, 2018: EM grids passed all qualification tests!
Second X-ray test of EM grids successful
The second X-ray test of the EM grids, after the vibration test, shows the same quality of all moiré patterns. The picture shows the setup at PSI. The vibration test was successfully passed!
Vibration test of EM completed
On 1-2 Nov 2017, a vibration test was successfully performed at the FHNW with the Rear Grid Assembly Engineering Model. Movies of in-plane and out-of-plane vibrations are available:
First X-ray test
On 27 Sep 2017 we performed the first X-ray test with the Engineering Model grids and saw the moiré patterns. Thanks a lot to the PSI team for the support!
X-ray test of MiSolFA EM grids at PSI
EM front and rear grids assembled
The Engineering Model of front and rear grid assemblies is now ready. Next week we’ll start the metrology with optical instrumentation. X-ray tests will follow. Vibration tests are scheduled in one month from now.
First set of EM grids available
The first set of engineering model (EM) grids is now available. Testing campaign will start soon
